Featured Speakers

Detective Kristyn Bernier is an 18 year veteran of the Portsmouth, NH Police Department, specializing in undercover internet crime investigation, child exploitation, sexually based crimes, domestic violence, sex offender management and undercover narcotics work. She is currently a member of the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, actively investigating offenders who possess, manufacture and distribute child sexual assault images. Prior to becoming a law enforcement officer, Det. Bernier was a family assessment specialist and caseworker working with juvenile offenders and juvenile victims of child abuse and sexual abuse. Det. Bernier is the co-author of Cyber Crime Fighters: Tales from the Trenches (Que 2009), and gives internet safety presentations throughout New Hampshire. She also recently co-authored a chapter on Sexual Offenders in Serial Offenders: Theory and Practice (Jones and Bartlett 2012). She trains law enforcement professionals and other multi-disciplinary professionals in various areas, including the interview and interrogation of sex offenders and child predators, sex offender management, investigative techniques and victim interview techniques. Det. Bernier has been recognized by the Department of Justice, the NH Attorney General's Office, Sexual Assault Support Services and other agencies with awards and commendations with regard to her work.


Becky Berk joined the NH Children’s Trust in March, 2010.  Her responsibilities include the development of an integrated approach to training, technical assistance, evaluation and program support for organizations working to prevent child abuse and neglect in New Hampshire, including home visiting providers, family resource centers, early childhood programs, parent advocacy groups, programs designed to strengthen families, and related state and community agencies.

Becky has a 20-year history with the New Hampshire non-profit sector, including community needs assessment and agency relations work with United Way, program planning and advocacy with the American Lung Association, and training and program operations with the New Hampshire Center for Effective Behavioral Interventions and Supports. She has served on the Boards of Directors of the Webster House, Child and Family Services Manchester region, and the NH Community Loan Fund.   

Becky also has a passion for education.  Before working with non-profits, Becky taught life science and physics in Cairo, Egypt and at the Derryfield School in Manchester.  She currently serves as a member of the School Board in Hooksett and has chaired the SAU 15 district board with the communities of Auburn, Candia and Hooksett.  Becky comes most recently from Southeastern Regional Education Service Center (SERESC) where she helped coordinate a statewide education initiative in positive behavioral supports and constructive discipline in K-12 schools and preschools.  Becky holds a BA from Swarthmore College in biology and a Master’s degree in education with a focus on leadership and supervision from Antioch University New England.
